I’ve been going crazy with the Asics collabs lately, and while most have sold out, some have actually sat. These Mita x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer Trico were easily swoopable and I had to grab them!
I’m a big fan of the original Asics x Mita Trico sneaker so this sendup to that was an easy cop. The shoe includes 2 sets of rope laces and features a branded chain link fence graphic on the insole and another special graphic underneath the top eyelets.
These fall under the “flag shoe” category in that it’s basically a red, white and blue combo. That said, the heavy feature of 2 different shades of blue make these a little tough to match up. I think khaki or dark wash denim can work well here if paired up with a grey or white top. Adding some blue accents to your outfit can’t hurt either.
Not every collab has to sell out to be dope. In this case, I feel like a lot of Asics fans are sleeping on these, perhaps because they’re on a Kayano and not a GL3/5. Still I’m glad I swooped these up as the colorway and the more dense suede on the toebox make these a winner!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are overall good if not a bit of a mixed bag. The shoe has a suede upper, but whereas the lighter suede is a nice, lush, buttery texture, the darker blue areas are more sandpaper-ish. This may be due to the construction needs on the paneling of the kayano trainer. In any case, the light blue parts pretty much make up for it, so I’d say the materials get a pass on this sneaker.
How Do They Fit?
The Mita x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer Trico fit snug at true to size. Similar to the GLV, I feel like I have to squeeze my foot into the shoe. Once it’s in there though, the shoe is very comfy! The shape is also on point right out of the box!
